M&S food technical director Paul Willgoss is leaving the retailer after 26 years.
Willgoss, who has been in the role for the past 12 years, is set to leave at the end of the financial year.
He will be replaced by current Morrisons group corporate services and technical services director, Andrew Clappen.
In a letter to colleagues seen by The Grocer, M&S COO and Food MD Stuart Machin said Willgoss had made “an exceptional contribution” to the company and the wider food industry.
Willgoss has also worked in a number of roles at M&S across trading, business development, supply chain and logistics.
Machin added Willgoss had decided to “seek new challenges where he can use his considerable expertise across the breadth of the food and agriculture industry”.
Clappen has previously worked at M&S for over 20 years before joining Loblaw in Canada as senior VP of food safety, quality & regulatory affairs.
He has spent the past nine years with Morrisons in a variety of roles. He also chaired the supermarket’s Brexit Strategy & Operations board, and is “very active” within IGD and the BRC.
“Andrew brings a wealth of experience with him from across the food industry – not only with M&S but with other major national and international retailers – and he joins M&S at an important point in our transformation,” said Machin.
“His skills and experience in food technology and leadership, alongside his interest in sustainability, make him the ideal candidate for this role and he will be an enormous asset to the business.”
