Humphrey Singer will join M&S as its new chief finance officer, as well as a member of its board, on 9 July 2018.
He will be working closely with CEO Steve Rowe and the senior leadership team as they continue to accelerate the pace of transformation at M&S. This has already seen M&S reveal plans to close more than 100 stores by 2022.
M&S announced Singer’s appointment in January, but did not confirm a start date at that time.
He will replace Helen Weir, who left the retailer on 31 March to pursue a portfolio career.
Singer is currently group finance director of Dixons Carphone, where he has worked since 2007, prior to Dixons’ merger with Carphone Warehouse. He has previously held a number of finance roles at Cadbury Schweppes and Coca-Cola Enterprises UK, including finance director at the latter.
“As we embark on our five-year transformation programme, Humphrey will be a great addition to the top team,” said M&S chief executive Steve Rowe at the time Singer’s appointment was announced. “His experience as part of the team that led Dixons through its period of change and migration to multichannel retailer is most relevant to what we are undertaking here. This, coupled with his retail expertise and eye for detail and cost, will be very important to our team dynamic as we move forward.”
