M&S has recalled its own-label red Thai chicken curry owing to a packaging mistake.
The upmarket retailer has taken the SKU off sale in stores and online after its packaging contained its aromatic lamb variant instead. This resulted in the product containing milk that was not mentioned on the label.
The packaging blunder impacts the Balanced For You red Thai chicken curry with the barcode 00466820 and use-by dates of 14 and 15 December.
The Food Standards Agency warned the product is a health risk for any customers with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. It urged impacted customers to return the item to an M&S store for a refund.
M&S has issued a point of sale notice in its stores to inform customers about the recall and why it is necessary. It said it considers customer safety of “paramount importance” and takes all issues regarding the production of its food products “extremely seriously”.
“We take food safety extremely seriously and we have withdrawn our Balanced For You red Thai chicken curry product as a precautionary measure,” an M&S spokesman told The Grocer. “Customers who have bought the product should return it to their nearest M&S store for a full refund.”
