M&S has become the first of the mults to stock this year’s indoor-grown Jersey Royal potatoes.
Bags of the potatoes went into stores at the weekend (rsp: £3.99/500g bag). They are produced by The Jersey Royal Company and packed by Manor Fresh, part of Fresca Group.
Other mults are expected to start stocking indoor Jersey Royals in the coming weeks.
As for this year’s outdoor crop, the wet weather meant only 50% of the Jersey outdoor crop had been planted to date, compared with up to 90% in a typical year, said William Church, sales and marketing director at The Jersey Royal Company.
Limited quantities of the Jersey Royal outdoor crop were expected to arrive in stores at the end of March. “What’s been planted has been growing well,” he added.
