Marks & Spencer is staging in-store recruitment open days to keep its pipeline of new staff flowing while it is unable to take applications online.
M&S suspended online recruitment, along with clothing and home orders, after hackers took control of its systems in a cyberattack in April.
The retailer has said it expects online disruption to continue until July.
With all job listings pulled from its website, M&S stores are turning to Facebook to advertise walk-in open days for “multiple vacancies”.
M&S’s full-line store in Shoreham, West Sussex, held one on 28 May, while another in Peterborough is staging one on 4 June.
“Are you interested in working at M&S?” the Shoreham store wrote on its Facebook page.
“We have multiple vacancies across the store, from Food and Fashion, Home and Beauty to our Operations team.
“We are holding a recruitment day on Wednesday 28 May 2025 between 9am – 3pm. Head to [the] Shoreham store between these hours for an interview if you are interested.
“Please can you ensure you bring all your right to work documents so they can be checked during your interview if you are successful.”
The Peterborough store in Brotherhood Retail Park is asking candidates to turn up between 10am and 5pm on Wednesday. “We have various roles, start/finish times and hours available,” the store wrote.
“Come along for an interview.
“There is no need to book just turn up in between the timeframe and head to the top floor till points to get signed in and then a member of staff will help you.”

M&S stores maintain their own individual social media accounts, giving them a route to potential candidates in their area.
M&S Cribbs Causeway in Bristol, one of the retailer’s latest ‘renewal format’ stores, posted on Friday about “a range of great part-time & full-time vacancies available in our Food department”, and asked applicants to bring in their CV in person.
The full-line Cribbs Causeway store was the subject of an ITV documentary in December, Inside M&S, which watched staff work overnight in preparation for opening ahead Christmas.
M&S’s full-line Merry Hill store near Dudley posted on 29 May about night-shift food and operations roles. The store directed applicants to a Microsoft Forms link to apply. Applications have since been suspended due to the volume of sumbissions, according to the page.
M&S was approached for comment.
The retailer has estimated the cyberattack will have a £300m impact on profit for the financial year.
Kantar’s monthly grocery sales figures last week revealed M&S maintained strong growth despite some disruption to availability for its food business. Spending on groceries at the retailer grew 12.3% year on year in the 12 weeks to 18 May 2025.
