Marks and Spencer is sticking with a larger format as it announces further sites for the expansion of its Simply Food convenience chain.
It has sacrificed extended opening hours for increased turnover generated by square footage at a proposed 5,000 sq ft site in Worcester Park, Surrey, and a 5,100 sq ft store on the Westway Retail Park in Greenford.
New sites in Fulham, London and Weybridge due to open in Spring are also above the 3,000 sq ft threshold for stores to qualify for extended Sunday hours.
M&S opened a Simply Food store in Greenwich this week, its fifth on a high street location.
It will open its next outlet, a 6,000 sq ft site in Banstead, in Surrey, later this year as well as a 6,000 sq ft store in Barnet. It plans to source 20 high quality, high footfall sites in central London, London suburbs and affluent provincial locations throughout the South East by March 2003.
