Mars is struggling to supply many lines of its core confectionery brands, including Topic, Skittles, Minstrels, Bounty and Mars bars.
An online search for Topic returned only one result across the big four supermarkets. Small packs of M&M’s and Minstrels were unavailable across all the big four supermarkets, while 37g packs of Maltesers were missing from Tesco and Morrisons.
All Mars multipacks were out of stock in Asda, while single Mars bars were unavailable in Morrisons.
Single Bounty bars, meanwhile, were unavailable at Morrisons and Sainsbury’s and 45g Skittles packs were only in stock at Tesco.
A spokeswoman for Mars said it was “experiencing high levels of demand on a number of our treats”.
“We are producing significant quantities and want to reassure the British public that our much-loved brands are still available nationwide.”
The Grocer has approached the grocers for comment.
The Guardian recently reported that shoppers looking for Mars bars were encountering empty shelves and out-of-stock messages.
The availability issues come at a turbulent time for the fmcg giant, which has been hiking prices and shrinking products in recent months to mitigate soaring input costs.
As reported by The Grocer in the summer, the chocolate giant shrunk the size of its Maltesers sharing bags and Twix multipacks due to “the rising costs of raw materials and operations”.
