Somerfield has appointed regional director Roger Marston as temporary retail director, with responsibility for all Somerfield store formats.
He will replace Tina Lewis who begins a period of six months’ maternity leave on February 1.
He said: “It will be a challenge following Tina into the role.
“However I know that the field and central teams will support me, not only to maintain the momentum but to make the rest of this year the best ever.” Marston has worked for the retailer for 29 years and Lewis has been with the company since 1985, after initially joining as a part time sales assistant.
She said: “While I am away I am confident that Roger and the senior retail team will continue to do a fantastic job.
“Every member of the retail team has a clear understanding of our battle plan, which focuses on improving our customer offer in every store.”
Lewis plans to take up her job again in mid-June.
