Christmas pudding manufacturer Matthew Walker is recalling a selection of its Edna May Christmas puddings.
The Derbyshire-based company, which distributes mainly within the foodservice sector, says the recall is a precautionary measure after signs of mould growth were found on a limited number of products. A spokesman for the company said this had occurred after a reformulation of three product to reduce the salt content and that “corrective action” has been taken to ensure it was resolved.
“Quality assurance and food safety are non-negotiable, and as a result, the company has taken the decision to immediately remove three affected lines from sale,” the company said in a statement. “The recall does not affect any other Matthew Walker or Edna May products and customers who have purchased these products are asked to return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.”
The FSA has issued a Product Recall Information Notice and the company is working with its distribution partners to ensure that the recall is enforced in all markets. Recall notices will be displayed in stores and by suppliers.
Catering wholesaler 3663 has contacted customers who bought the products to instruct them to destroy any remaining stock, and has provided information on claiming a full refund.
Products included in the recall include Edna May Christmas puddings 350g, marked best before end April 2015 (lots codes L2347, L2351, L2352, L2353); best before end January 2016; and best before April 2016.
Also included are Edna May catering Christmas puddings 36 x 90g, all batch codes, best before end April 2015; best before end January 2016; and Edna May catering Christmas pudding loaf, 1.25kg, best before end January 2016.
