Kim Mawby has been appointed category development director for Kwik Save.
Her appointment is part of the ongoing development of two separate business units for Somerfield and Kwik Save. She will be heading a team of 20 category managers, responsible for bringing a clear customer focus to range and choice for the discount chain.
Mawby has held several senior trading and buying posts in the c-store sector. She was offered the role of group trading director for Spar UK in May, but turned it down for personal reasons (The Grocer, May 18)
She was most recently group trading manager for United Co-op, but was made redundant when its buying function was transferred to CRTG.
She worked for the society for four years, having joined as head of buying in 1998, and also chaired the Association of Convenience Stores personnel and training forum during that period.
Prior to that she was buying and marketing director for the Southampton-based c-store chain Misselbrook & Weston, leaving shortly after it was taken over by T&S Stores.
Before that she was buying and merchandising director for Jacksons Stores.
While at Jacksons, she was its representative on Nisa's Central Buying Company, and this was where she first worked with John von Spreckelsen, then chief executive of Budgens but now executive chairman of Kwik Save's parent company Somerfield.
