Musgrave Budgens-Londis has appointed former Safeway director Mark Aylwin as its new supply chain director.
Aylwin joined Safeway’s store operations team in 1984 and moved into supply chain management in 1992. Five years later, he became director of supply chain operations and was then promoted to the board as supply director. He was responsible for servicing 520 Safeway stores through 18 distribution centres.
Aylwin will start his new job at MBL on June 1. His ultimate goal is to develop the optimum distribution network for the business, which incorporates
2,200 Londis stores, 75 Budgens independent stores and 160 Budgens corporate stores.
He has been briefed to develop a national chilled network, drive efficiencies and improve service to independent retailers.
MD Mike Taylor said the appointment supported MBL’s commitment to the independent sector. “Our aim is to be the number one supplier to independent retailers and to give them the best possible offer, plus a delivery and support service they can count on,” he said. “Mark’s skills and lengthy experience in food retail can only help us improve and maintain our service.”
Aylwin’s logistics team includes operations director Jon Peggs and Richard Gibson, who was recently promoted to logistics manager.
Robert Wiseman Dairies chairman Alan Wiseman is taking a step back to become non-executive chairman. His brother Robert, who is currently the company’s MD, will become chief executive, a newly created role, with immediate effect.
Andreas Gembler will become president and chief executive of Bacardi on June 1. He has served on the board of directors since June 2003. He has also been chairman of Bertolucci Watch Manufacturing in Switzerland since 2001.
Dairy UK has announced the appointment of David Curry, MP, as its new chairman. Curry, a former government minister and front-bench spokesman with parliamentary experience in agricultural affairs, will succeed Sir Don Curry, who steps down as Dairy UK’s inaugural chairman in August.
