John Young, MD of McCain Foods GB, has died following an 18-month battle with bone cancer.
Young, who was 47, was a well-known industry figure, having worked at McCain Foods GB since 1998 and as MD since 2005.
He passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of New Year's Day.
"John was well known for his can-do attitude impossible was not a word that existed in John's dictionary," said Nick Vermont, regional CEO for McCain Foods. "His courage and commitment was exceptional and he continued to make a significant contribution to the business until a few weeks ago."
The industry is also mourning the loss of SHS Group co-founder Geoff Salters, who died on New Year's Eve. Co-founder Joe Sloan said Salters "possessed the personality to win people's hearts, minds and affection".
