Frozen spud giant McCain has created a trio of ‘Flavour Maker’ chips designed to tap Brits’ craving for restaurant-style chips at home.
The trio – Smokey BBQ, Garlic & Herb Chimichurri and Spicy Chilli Chipotle – come with flavour sachets packed in their bags, which can be used to season the chips to shoppers’ individual tastes before putting them in the oven.
They were created “in response to the popularity of flavoured fries in restaurants and the casual dining sector”, said McCain.
By adding a “customised element”, it added, “shoppers feel like they’ve elevated their meal whilst also providing a quick and convenient mealtime solution”.
The range was “perfect to accompany a variety of meal occasions whether it’s a special night in for a couple or to add something special to family mealtimes”, said the brand’s marketing director Mark Hodge.
It comes as Brits have become increasingly eager to mimic restaurant dishes at home – even when it comes to how they use frozen ingredients, as our Focus on Frozen report reveals this week.
The launch comes after McCain has had a standout year: the brand added £97.8m to its value, growing 19.7% to £593.6m, on volumes up 14.7% [Nielsen 52 w/e 26 December 2020].
