McCain has launched what it claims are the UK’s first branded frozen sweet potato fries.
The supplier said the fries (rsp: £2.50/500g) had been launched following significant consumer demand and rapid growth in the popularity of the vegetable.
“It’s a big favourite in the casual dining sector,” added marketing director Mark Hodge.
Retailers including Asda, Waitrose and Tesco carry own-label sweet potato chips, and Iceland this month launched a 700g bag of own-label sweet potato fries (£2). William Jackson Food Group recently rolled out an Aunt Bessie’s-branded sweet potato mash (rsp: £1.89/500g).
McCain has also launched frozen Baby Baked Potatoes (rsp: £2.50/700g), which are lightly seasoned with sea salt and black pepper and cook in three minutes in the microwave.
The launches follow the rollout of McCain Spicy Peri Peri Fries and Steakhouse Ridgecut Fries.
“Consumer insight tells us one and two-person households take inspiration from out-of-home dining when cooking at home,” said Hodge. “This NPD aims to inspire frozen potato purchase in this group by offering a variety of products that reference the latest food trends and feature interesting flavours, seasonings and cut types.”
