Organic milk is set to get a big boost from fast food giant McDonald's.
The chain is to start offering its customers organic milk in 250ml bottles from the beginning of February.
The Organic Milk Suppliers Co-operative will be supplying the company through one of McDonald's existing suppliers, Express Dairies.
The deal was the result of OMSCo's Make Organic Milk Available campaign, which saw the organisation contact retailers, restaurants, fast food stores and other outlets to encourage them to stock more product.
David Whiting, OMSCo's marketing director, said: "This is a very positive move by McDonald's which meets our long-term objective of making organic dairy mainstream. It means that three million customers a day will now have the opportunity to choose top quality organic milk and we hope that McDonald's will offer an even greater choice in the future."
He said the market for organic milk was growing by 26% year-on-year.
Keith Kenny, McDonald's UK head of supply, said: "The move is a natural progression as we already offer free range eggs across our breakfast menu. We are keen to continue our support of British farmers by adding organic milk to our range."
