McGuigan

Aussie wine brand McGuigan is revamping its portfolio with two new rieslings.

The winemaker has introduced a 2016 Riesling to its Classic range, which has rolled out to Sainsbury’s stores across the UK, and it plans to replace its Black Label gewürtztraminer blend with a straight riesling in coming months (rsp: £5.50 - £7/750ml).

The Classic 2016 Riesling was made with grapes from South Eastern Australia and “embodies the typical characteristics” of the style, said the brand, offering “a drier style than the grape’s German and Alsatian counterparts”.

Meanwhile, the Black Label riesling was “softer” and “in line with the flavour profiles of McGuigan’s Black Label range”, with an eye to tap the trend for straight varietals over blends.

McGuigan was “hugely excited” to launch the new rieslings “at a time when this fantastic wine is seeing a resurgence amongst consumers” said chief winemaker Neil McGuigan.

News of the NPD comes as Brits have knocked back an extra 2.1 million litres of McGuigan wine over the past year [Nielsen 52 w/e 9 September 2017].
