Mace wholesalers P&H McLane and Aberness are working together on a revamp of the Mace own label range and design.
A rationalised range of around 300 Mace own label products will adopt a new M' logo over the course of 2002, according to Derek Boocock, P&H general manager, symbols.
He said: "We are in the throes of working through a new look for the brand. We have a design with an M' replacing the word Mace and new packaging. We have stil to finalise what products to apply it to in conjunction with Aberness."
The new own label comes as P&H goes to work on updating its offer for Mace convenience retailers. It is already testing a new Mace retail solutions for the 21st century fascia' in two pilot sites, with plans to roll out the format nationwide from July (The Grocer, May 4, p4).
The new format, which was officially launched at P&H's Pro-Retail trade show last week, boasts modern looking aluminium and blue fixtures, with a dropped ceiling and contoured cash desk.
P&H national symbol sales manager David Ellis said the new solution was comparable to Londis' Genesis format and Spar's Millennium store.
It will be available to 245 Mace retailers as a complete upgrade, as well as to new recruits to the symbol group.
It will be used in addition to the CTN-style Mace Express format, due to hit a target of 100 stores by its first birthday this month. P&H also has two other symbol groups, Supershops which has 270 members and Your Store with 135 outlets.
