Meat snacking brand The Curators is entering the plant-based arena.
It has unveiled a new line of Veggie Puffs, which are made from peas and touted as providing 10g protein per pack.
They have launched in three flavours: Cheese, Salt & Vinegar and Sriracha (rsp: £1.20/30g).
Cheese will roll into Morrisons this month and the entire range will roll into the brand’s webstore, Whole Foods Market and independent retailers later this year.
The snacks provide a source of fibre and are billed as containing “significantly less carbs and fat” than a standard packet of crisps.
They were developed using “a novel protein isolation process that uses less sodium and therefore contains less salt”, said the brand.
The Curators co-founder Max Rees said this was “without doubt our most exciting launch yet”.
“In a world of carb-heavy savoury snacks that deliver little functional benefit”, he was “proud to have developed a clever plant-based product for everyday crisp lovers with over five times the amount of protein as comparable better-for-you snacks”.
Rees said he had seen “a growing emergence of better-for-you and protein-led products in the UK across multiple categories” and believed the brand could “bring this positioning to savoury snacks and add strong incremental value to the grab-and-go offering”.
It comes after the brand secured grocery listings with Morrisons and Waitrose for its Pork Puffs snacks earlier this year.
