Delivery strikes at Menzies have been suspended as staff vote on an improved offer.
Plans made in June by Menzies staff to strike over “pitiful pay” will be put on hold as more than 300 packers, pickers and drivers vote on an improved offer, the details of which are not being disclosed to the media.
The planned two-day strikes set to take place this week would have posed significant threats to deliveries of newspapers and magazines to convenience store operators.
“The strike action has been suspended while our members vote on the improved offer,” said Unite national officer for the graphical, paper and media sector Ian Tonks.
“The result is expected Friday 30 September. Unite won’t be making any further comment until the ballot result is known.”
Unite members had voted 86% in favour of strike action and by 91% for industrial action short of a strike.
