Caravan, the grocery industry’s welfare charity, has promoted Cathy Mercer to the position of development director.
In a new role for Caravan, Mercer will be responsible for driving the Caravan agenda for the prevention and alleviation of poverty among retired former grocery workers through its new educational campaign (The Grocer, February 25, page 15).
Mercer was previously company secretary for Caravan, a position she held for a year. Before she joined Caravan, Mercer worked for 17 years for Safeway in a number of human resources roles, latterly in the position of head of organisational development.
Mercer said: “It is going to be a very exciting time and I am really looking forward to be able to have the opportunity to make a difference in trying to prevent people from falling into the poverty trap.”
