Minara Foods is set to take microwaveable meals into a new format.
It has developed three twin-pot Indian meals - chicken biriani with vegetable balti sauce, chicken biriani with korma sauce, and vegetable biriani with a tomato and red pepper sauce - under the brand name Micro Meal.
Each Micro Meal (rsp: £2.75) contains a 220g jar of basmati rice with vegetables or meat and a 280g jar of curry sauce. And the gluten, nut and wheat-free meals, which have a three-year shelf-life, are ready in the microwave in three minutes.
Sales manager Andrew Bell said the meals should appeal particularly to office workers
who have no access to a fridge at work but would like a hot meal for lunch.
Minara currently produces curry sauces and pastes for some Tesco stores in the north-west. But Bell said Micro Meals could take the £1m company to another level. “The ultimate goal is to deal with all the major multiples and raise awareness of the Minara brand,” added Bell.
The Micro Meal range is due to go exclusively on shelves in 500 Tesco stores from mid-August for six months.
