One of The Grocer’s Top 50 independent retailers, Metro Stores, has been bought by Midlands Co-op
Metro Stores, operating in the Burton upon Trent area, comprise of eight convenience stores providing over 5000 sq ft of retail selling space.
John Fitzgerald, chief general manager, commented: “A great deal of local knowledge has been built up over the years in these stores. Metro is a well-respected name in the Burton area and we are proud to be doing business with such experienced retailers.
“We will continue to trade under the Metro name in the short term and will review our position in the New Year. The product range will change to reflect the Co-op brand and to incorporate wider fresh food offer.”
The stores will close for two days for stock taking and re-stocking and they will re-open on November 3.
