Sainsbury's rebranded home shopping service is just the first in a series of "building blocks" the company will lay in the next few months to boost its e-commerce activity.
The development of Sainsbury's to You, launched last week, took part of the "huge" budget allocated to e-commerce by new chief executive Sir Peter Davis.
Currently available in 10 stores in London, the new service is claimed to cut shopping times by half. More powerful software enables consumers to plan their shopping using loyalty card data.
Orders will be fulfilled through stores and the company's new picking warehouse, due to open in London's Park Royal in June.
"Consumers wanted a slicker site with easier navigation. The format is here to stay," said a spokesman.
* Sainsbury's denied its recent bout of senior management resignations was due to anything more than staff retiring. Retail operations director Ken Barden left last week to be replaced by Graham Naylor, who becomes central retail operations director. Director of large store formats John O'Sullivan leaves at the end of May.
