Yeo Valley Organic and Milk Link have joined forces in a production and marketing venture for organic cheese.
Milk Link will be licensed to produce Yeo Valley cheese at its Taw Valley creamery and distribute it to retail customers. At the same time, Milk Link will merge its 40m litres per year organic milk pool with that of Omsco.
Milk Link is aiming to grow the market for organic cheese, and says the product has so far been under-exploited.
Organic cheese sales are worth around £38.5m per year, just 1.9% of the total cheese market. But organic dairy as a category is up 12% on 2006 and accounts for 3.3% of total dairy sales.
