Milk Link has completed the first phase of a major upgrade of The Cheese Company's Oswestry packing plant in a bid to transform it into the most advanced facility of its kind in the UK.
It has spent £2.5m so far on phase one of Project Vision, which will substantially increase the 800 tonnes of cheese currently packed each week.
The site has been fitted with modern slicing and flow-wrap lines, and there are plans to introduce robotic technology for the packing and palletisation of cheese slices.
"Reaching the end of Phase One of this project marks a milestone in our commitment to being an industry-leading business," said chief executive Neil Kennedy.
Phase two of Project Vision starts later this year.
The new technology will give The Cheese Company more flexibility, Milk Link said. Customers include Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco, M&S and Iceland.
