Recipe box brand Mindful Chef has partnered with charity Diabetes UK to create a range of nutritionist-approved recipes designed for people living with, or at risk of developing, type 2 diabetes.
Mindful Chef worked with the charity for six months to plan the recipe options, which come with more extensive nutritional labelling.
Menu highlights include Turkey with Creamy Pesto Penne & Spinach and Aubergine Parmigiana with Balsamic Mixed Salad – which are gluten and dairy-free too.
The brand also tweaked some of its most popular recipes specifically to support people managing their diabetes.
The ‘Mindful Chef x Diabetes UK’ options will be available from this month.
“Mindful Chef’s mission has always been to make healthy eating easy,” said Myles Hopper, co-founder of Mindful Chef. “We feel strongly that this should be the case regardless of dietary requirements, which is why our range is gluten and dairy-free with a wide variety of plant-based offerings on the menu.
“From a business perspective, we felt that we were well-suited to provide a solution for this consumer demand among the diabetes community and Diabetes UK aligns strongly as a brand partner in terms of both target consumer and core values,” Hopper added.
In the UK there are currently 4.9 million people living with diabetes and around 90% of those have type 2.
The charity called diabetes one of the “UK’s biggest and growing health crises”. Lifestyle changes such as eating a healthy diet and keeping physically active can help some people halve the risk of type 2 diabetes and prevent life-changing complications.
“We know that after being diagnosed with diabetes, confusion around how to adapt your diet is often a concern for people and their families,” said Chris Askew, CEO of Diabetes UK.
“For this reason, we were really excited to work with the team at Mindful Chef to develop a range of recipes that will make healthy eating easier,” he added.
