Pladis has launched a new non-HFSS version of Mini Cheddars with 30% less fat.
Called Mini Cheddars Nibblies, the NPD is touted as a “reinvention” of the well-known snack, ringing in at 75 calories per portion.
They replicated the brand’s core cracker but “now with a mouth-watering light and crispy texture”, said Pladis.
They will roll out in two flavours – Cheddar & Smoked Paprika and Double Gloucester & Chive – in 6x17g multipacks as well as 115g sharing packs (rsp: £1.50).
Shoppers were “actively seeking healthier snacks” but unwilling to compromise on taste, said Pladis UK&I marketing controller Christopher Owen.
The NPD was “generously seasoned and packed full of flavour to ensure Mini Cheddars shoppers – both established and new – can enjoy a moment of cheesy pleasure, even if they’re opting for a lower-calorie, lower-fat proposition”, he said.
Meanwhile, the launch into both multipacks and sharing bags would “encourage shoppers to enjoy this nibbly new treat during even more eating occasions”, he added.
It’s the brand’s first launch which will be exempt from the coming clampdown on HFSS products. However it’s not the brand’s first foray into healthier snacks. Last year it launched a lighter spin-off called Mini Cheddars Crunchlets.
