Mission raised £4.1m in the summer

Tea challenger Mission is gearing up for further growth after extending its fundraising round to a total of £2m and securing investment from F1 driver Pierre Gasly.

The natural energy drink and performance tea company brand raised £1.4m last summer, including from the crowd on the Crowdcube platform.

It has now expanded that total and welcomed Gasly on board to join other investors such as television presenter Jake Humphrey, former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and England cricket captain Heather Knight.

“To have Pierre Gasly invest in Mission and share our passion to provide consumers with sustained energy, cognitive enhancement and faster recovery is incredibly exciting,” said founder Tom Whittle.

“Pierre is a big fan of our teas and has been for several years, but after trying our ready-to-drink cans last year and seeing the potential in Mission, he wanted to take that love one step further.”

Whittle, who holds a Guinness World Record for running the length of Iceland in 10 days, launched Mission in 2019.

Its products – a range of hot and cold brew teas made using natural ingredients – are used by Premier League footballers, the England cricket team, F1 racing teams and hundreds of GB athletes, according to the brand.

“For too long, the energy drinks market has been dominated by brands that offer drinks laden with sugar, caffeine and artificial sweeteners,” Whittle added.

“Mission is changing this for the better and shaking up an entire industry. We’re providing a natural, healthier energy boost that’s actually good for you, without the caffeine or sugar-induced slump that follows.

“Mission’s latest funding round sets us up for exciting growth, expanding our market performance and spearheading our goal to transform the energy drink market with a cleaner, more natural alternative to the sugary, artificially sweetened and caffeine-loaded players that currently dominate the space.”
