Gluten-free snack maker Mister Free’d has landed a six-figure funding package and secured B Corp certification.
The business said the £650k from the Greater London Investment Fund would support its growth and ambition of becoming the leading healthy snack brand in Europe.
Mister Free’d added it was the first UK tortilla chip band to be certified as a B Corp.
Certified B Corporations aim to balance profit with people and the planet and are verified by B Lab to meet “high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability”.
Founded in 2015 by David Ventura and Tomas Mesa, Mister Free’d makes gluten-free, vegan tortilla chips using natural ingredients. It has secured listings in Asda, Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Holland & Barrett and Planet Organic, as well as foodservice operators such as Café Ritazza, Upper Crust and Délice de France.
“There is a real appetite for a tasty, healthy snacking experience at an affordable price point and this represents a springboard for future growth,” Ventura said.
The business is backed by Panoramic Growth Equity following a seven-figure investment in 2019.
