Coin-counting machine specialist Coinstar is in talks with retailers to install 400 electronic top-up kiosks.
The company, which has its coin counting machines at 80% of Sainsbury’s large stores and 95% of Asda’s estate, has developed self-service mobile phone top-up machines that generate commission without any labour costs, said Coinstar’s UK MD Alex Camara.
“This is a low margin product, so if you can sell it without labour costs, retailers are very interested.”
Coinstar is also running new trials of its coin counting machines at Tesco, Somerfield and the Co-operative Group.
