The mischievously named Goats do Roam wine range from South Africa is introducing two additions in the festive season.
Bored Doe and Goat Door will join the other Rhône-style wines in the Goats do Roam Wine Company stable from the Fairview Estate, owned by winemaker Charles Back.
Goats do Roam Rosé was added last year and Goats do Roam in Villages in 2003.
The latest addition, Bored Doe 2004 (rsp: £6.99), is a traditional Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot grapes from the Stellenbosch and Paarl areas.
Goat Door 2005 (rsp: £5.99) is an oaked Chardonnay, with fruit sourced from two vineyard sites.
“It is exciting to show the diversity of South African wines,” said Sophie Waggett of Wines of South Africa. “Charles Back is always dynamic and innovative.”
South Africa moved up from fifth to fourth this year in the list of countries supplying wine to the UK off-trade [ACNielsen Value MAT to May 14, 2005].
Maxxium UK has been appointed as distributor for a range of spirits owned by the Irish C&C Group, including Carolans Irish Cream Liqueur, Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey and Irish Mist Liqueur. Previously, distribution rights were held by Allied Domecq.
The ‘If Carlsberg did Holidays’ promotion has come to an end with a family of eight beating 14,000 other entrants to take the top prize of a luxury, all expenses paid holiday, complete with private jet. The promotion helped Carlsberg grow by 30%.
A monthly whisky club for enthusiasts has been launched in London, commencing with tastings of The Balvenie malt, distributed by First Drinks. Aqua Vitae was created to promote interest in whisky and to allow trade and consumer whisky enthusiasts to learn from experts.
Coors has launched a free pint glass offer on interactive TV for the run-up to Christmas. The embossed Coors glass is specially toughened to allow it to be safely frozen in a domestic freezer to create an ice-cold drink. Its Ice Cold TV ad gives viewers the option to click on the red interactive button to claim their free glass.
