Morrisons announces price cuts across 150 popular food and drink products

Morrisons has launched a major round of price cuts targeting 150 of its most popular products.

The supermarket group, which this month lost its place in the big four grocers to Aldi, said it was looking to support shoppers during the cost of living crisis.

Morrisons said the 150 products featured in the initiative made up nearly 6% of its total volume sales and were being reduced in price by an average of 14%.

The included lines such as chicken breasts, mince, bread, baked beans, chopped tomatoes, potatoes and a variety of fruit & vegetables.

It said products like toilet paper and cereal are also included within the cuts, as well as freezer items such as fish fingers, chips and pizzas. Cuts have also been made to some of Morrisons’ entry-level products within its Savers and Wonky ranges. 

Morrisons British steak mince 5% fat 500g has been reduced from £3.69 to £2.69, while Morrisons salted British butter 250g is now £1.99, down from £2.15.

The retailer said it had “invested over £100m per annum to cut these prices and leveraged its own manufacturing sites to help customers as the cost of living crisis continues to impact household grocery budgets”. 

“The cost of living crisis continues to place an enormous financial burden on our customers and we want to play our part in helping them when it comes to the cost of grocery shopping,” said Morrisons CEO David Potts.

“These price cuts are on the products they buy day in and day out and will have a noticeable impact on their budgets and demonstrate our commitment to offering the best possible value.”
