After a lengthy and much publicised boardroom battle, troubled supermarket group Morrisons has finally announced the appointment of three new non-executive directors - Nigel Robertson, Brian Flanagan and Susan Murray.
Nigel Robertson has held senior positions in the food division of Marks and Spencer and played a central role in establishing online grocery service Ocado.
Brian Flanagan has worked for the Mars Corporation for 26 years and is global vice president of business transformation,
Susan Murray was formerly chief executive of Littlewoods and is currently a non-executive director at SSL international, Enterprise Inns and Imperial Tobacco.
Sir Ken Morrison, chairman of Morrisons, promised shareholders at the retailer’s annual general meeting last month that he would appoint four non-executive directors within four to six weeks.
However, reports in the weekend papers suggested that Sir Ken was set to reject the nominations for the non-executive positions put forward by his deputy David Jones who was charged with drawing up a shortlist of candidates.
A fourth non-exec is expected to be appointed within the next four weeks, Morrisons said.
