Morrisons is set to complete its Safeway conversion process next week - ahead of its original schedule by more than a year.
Conversions at Camden, Glasgow, Clevedon and Rubery will be completed. Overall the retailer will have converted 219 Safeway stores since the process began in earnest in July 2004. It has been converting four stores a week since January.
City analyst Steve Davies at Numis Securities said the challenge now was to offer the range shoppers wanted in a highly competitive market. He added that it would take a while for sales to pick up sufficiently to offset the dual running costs incurred since the takeover.
Mark Harrison, Morrisons’ northern store director, said: “Using the data from Safeway we can offer all our customers a range to be proud of.”
The latest TradeTrak figures from ACNielsen show Morrisons’ share of grocery is stable at 12%.
