Morrisons has dropped its £2.99 own label Claret in favour of a £4.99 wine which will be the chain's only own label Bordeaux red.
The chain is one of the first to abandon the sub £3 price point for own label Bordeaux and the move is part of an overhaul of the wine list this autumn.
Wine buyer Stuart Bodie said: "A well made superior quality blend is more representative of what Bordeaux should and can do and is a better reflection of the standard of Morrisons' wine offer."
The new wine has been provided by Maison Sichel which has worked with the company for 12 months to create the right blend and packaging.
