Morrisons has confirmed its group trading director for non-food, Bruno Lebon, has left the business after just four months in the role.
Lebon, who previously spent nearly 40 years at French supermarket giant Carrefour, most recently as its executive director of supermarkets and hypermarkets, is understood to have left to concentrate on other business interests in his native France.
A long time ally of Morrisons CEO Rami Baitiéh, he was brought in to run the non-food side at Morrisons while Andrew Staniland, its group trading director, concentrated on a reboot of the food trading team after his arrival in February from Iceland.
It’s understood Lebon, who on arrival was billed as one of the most experienced retail executives in Europe, had originally agreed to serve a 12-month contract.
He was heavily involved in the ongoing rollout of its WIGIG promotions in his time at Morrisons.
Staniland will take on his duties after Lebon’s decision to leave, it is understood.
Two weeks ago The Grocer revealed Staniland had launched an overhaul of the retailer’s trading team dubbed ‘Morrisons Magic’. It will see some category director roles merged into heads of trading areas, while buyers will now also be known as traders.
The overhaul will include a revamp for Morrisons’ fresh food offer and its Market Street proposition.
A Morrisons spokesman said: “Bruno has decided to leave slightly earlier than anticipated but he leaves the business with our best wishes.
“We wish him well for the future.”
