Morrisons will mark World Cancer Day next month with its biggest fundraiser so far for its charity partner CLIC Sargent, which supports children, young people and their families facing cancer.
Band Against Cancer wristbands are now available in all its stores and a national fundraising day will be held across the Bradford-based supermarket group on 4 February.
Morrisons has raised more than £3m for the charity in just 11 months - a record amount the business has ever raised for a charity in such a short space of time.
The money includes £1.9m from Morrisons staff, with the remainder through marketing promotions with companies such as McVitie’s and Seabrook, and funding from independent charity the Morrisons Foundation.
“Our colleagues have got behind CLIC Sargent’s cause from day one, and have been tirelessly working to make this charity partnership our best yet,” said Morrisons head of corporate services David Scott.
“The generosity of our customers means that we are on track to achieving our ambitious targets, and we hope they will continue to support the cause as we enter the second year of our partnership.”
CLIC Sargent chief executive Kate Lee said: “Thanks to Morrisons, we have handed out hundreds of thousands of pounds in grants to ease the financial burden cancer brings and developed a brand new grant for those in extreme financial hardship.
“We have also recruited two brand new nurse educators - an entirely new role within the NHS - to provide specialist cancer care training outside of the primary cancer hospitals.”
