Morrisons is installing a new clocking-in swipe card system in a move that will cut administration costs and stop staff claiming pay for extra hours not worked.

The new system, from Autotime Solutions, which cost £1m, will mean all 375 Morrisons stores will have the same system, which replaces the two systems that have been running in parallel ever since Safeway was bought in 2003.

Many employees previously used a clock card system. Christian Berenger, business development director at Autotime, said this enabled some to play the system, by clocking in and out for each other to claim extra hours.
