Moto is planning to build a new motorway service station on farmland near Doncaster that would create more than 200 new jobs.
The 37-acre site off junction 37 on the A1(M) will include a petrol station, drive-through Costa, Greggs, M&S Simply Food, WH Smith and Burger King.
Steak house restaurant chain Arlo’s, a games centre, and space for other retail units also form part of the plans submitted to Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. It also includes parking for 562 cars, of which 26 will be for staff, 14 motorcycles, and 96 HGVs.
Moto currently employs 5,000 staff at 45 motorway service stations across the UK.
It said the £40m investment would create 215 new jobs.
“This section of the A1(M) serves both traffic from the A1 and the M1 and forms a vital part of the motorway network,” said Moto property director Mark Franks.
“These proposals will provide an important rest stop for these major routes.
“As well as providing that much-needed facility, our plans will bring many new jobs as well as helping to secure investment in the local economy. We are delighted to consult with the people of Doncaster and look forward to hearing their thoughts on the proposed new service area.”
The service station would open in 2019, if planning permission is granted.
