MPs have called for an investigation into Tesco's use of tax havens in the Cayman Islands.
This week, two Early Day Motions were tabled calling for Tesco to pay the full amount of tax due to the UK and on the government to take steps to prevent tax avoidance by big companies.
"The net effect of such schemes and accountancy fiddles is to erode the tax base," the first motion stated. The second motion added: "Tesco's actions will starve British citizens of resources for vital services including the NHS, schools and police." As The Grocer went to press, 65 MPs had signed the motions.
