Asda is set to introduce its second seafood product certified to the Marine Stewardship Council's environmental standard.
The new Asda own brand Alaskan salmon product, prepared in a lime and coriander marinade, is due to hit shelves on December 8.
The product is priced at £2.68 for 450g and will be available from all major Asda stores.
Asda is planning to source more products carrying the MSC
label in the future.
Hilary Khawam, commercial director of the MSC, said: “We welcome the commitment that Asda, like other retailers before them, is making towards long-term sustainability in its seafood purchasing decisions.
“This sends strong signals to other retailers whom we hope will pursue sourcing policies similar to this.”
Sarah Clyburn, Asda fish marketing, said: “Asda is committed to selling fish that come from environmentally sustainable sources. We look forward to developing even more approved products in the coming months.”
