Müller Wiseman Dairies has pledged to keep the milk flowing to customers despite suffering a major fire at its Droitwich processing plant earlier this week.
The fire broke out on Monday night at Müller’s Worcestershire site.
The company said today it had substantially increased production across its network of dairies and had agreed temporary packing agreements with other processors.
Droitwich was a modern, technologically advanced dairy and whilst its design had prevented further extensive damage, it would take time to bring it back into production because of the fire’s impact on some systems, said Ronald Kers, chief executive of Müller UK & Ireland Group.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure service levels are as close to the exceptionally high levels our customers have come to expect.”
Heiner Kamps, CEO of parent company Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller, also moved to reassure customers that Müller Wiseman had its full support to ensure a speedy return to normal business.
Müller Wiseman benefitted from “full and immediate” resources, investment and expertise which was available from the group, he said. “Our colleagues in the UK know that they have the group’s support and we will do whatever we can to assist in bringing Droitwich back into full operation as quickly as possible.”
