Musgrave Group has closed J&J Haslett's ambient distribution centre in Derriaghy, Northern Ireland.
Musgrave, which supplies Supervalu and Centra retailers in the province, acquired Mace operator Haslett in 2007. Musgrave announced in February this year that the Derriaghy operation would move to its Belfast site by the end of September.
"We recognise the strong history and heritage associated with Mace in the Derriaghy area," a Musgrave Group spokeswoman said. "The merging of these two very similar businesses secures the future of Mace, its retailers and the majority of employees and puts the company on a sound footing to be a driving force in independent retailing in Northern Ireland."
The majority of staff had been offered jobs with Musgrave or its logistics partner Wincanton, the spokeswoman added.
Meanwhile, Musgrave Retail Partners GB has launched a fleet of eco-friendly lorries to serve its Londis retailers. The 72 lorries, which will be phased into circulation over the next two months, have improved fuel efficiency, are 99% recyclable and are able to transport chilled produce.
"It is important to us that we offer Londis retailers a first-class service from the moment they place their order until it is delivered. We can now offer a complete service for fresh produce while reducing the impact of our operations on the environment," said Musgrave GB supply chain director Scott Wharton.
