Northern Irish wholesaler and symbol group J&J Haslett has entered into exclusive takeover talks with rival Musgrave Group.
Republic of Ireland-based Musgrave, which supplies 140 SuperValu and Centra stores in Northern Ireland, is thought to be keen on the deal, which would enable it to compete more strongly with Henderson Group, the province's Spar wholesaler supplying 400 Spar and Vivo retailers. Hasletts runs 165 Mace stores.
"All I can say is that we have allowed one bidder a period of exclusivity in which to complete their due diligence," said J&J Haslett delivered business director Tom Uprichard this week.
