Mutti, Italy’s leading producer of tinned tomatoes, has expanded its UK portfolio into pasta sauce and ketchup, following its debut in the mults at the start of the year.
The brand has added a five-strong lineup of pasta sauce aimed at satisfying demand for “more authentic world foods with clean labels”. Basil, Olives, Chilli, Parmesan and Grilled Vegetables (rsp: £2.50/400g) are 69% to 82% cold-pressed Italian tomato, with neither the citric acid nor preservatives often found in similar products. They will be available via distributor RH Amar from next month.
Mutti’s pasta sauces will join its new ketchup, which has rolled into Ocado following a successful launch in foodservice.
With an rsp of £2 for a 340g bottle, it was “a clear trade up from mainstream brands, but at a more attainable level as part of a weekly family shop than other premium offerings” said Jess Bartkowiak, brand manager for Mutti at RH Amar. Made with 56% tomato paste, it also contained “more tomatoes than premium brands positioned at significantly higher price points”.
The latest launches come after Mutti won its first listing with a major high street grocer. A selection of its SKUs – covering tinned tomatoes, passata and tomato purée – landed in Sainsbury’s in January, almost five years after the brand arrived in the UK.
