Nampak Plastics is claiming a world first in producing a milk bottle that contains 30% recycled plastic.

Nampak worked with Closed Loop Recycling to produce the four-pint bottle, part of Nampak’s Infini milk bottle range. Currently the range includes up to 15% recycled HDPE (rHDPE), and Nampak claims the move to 30% rHDPE will reduce the use of virgin HDPE by 25,000 tonnes a year.

The 30% target had been reached well ahead of the 2015 Dairy UK and Defra Milk Roadmap targets, said MD Eric Collins. “Infini has been responsible for a paradigm shift in milk packaging.” Nampak estimated it had cut the carbon footprint of its UK plants 50% since 2008.
