Nando's-branded cooking sauces will be available to retail for the first time to meet growing demand for spicier ingredients in scratch cooking.
All About Food, which makes Nando's products for retail, is launching the four cooking sauces this week in hot, medium, wild herb & garlic and smokey BBQ (rsp: £1.99). The sauces all contain the peri-peri chilli that is used in the restaurant chain's kitchens.
"Consumers see cooking sauces as a logical next step for the brand and these provide the opportunity for a quick and easy midweek peri-peri fix," said marketing director Ben Johnson, who added that Nando's peri-peri sauce was outselling Tabasco at a rate of 54% year-on-year [IRI 52w/e 15 May 2010].
This week, Tesco introduced Dave's Ghost Pepper Sauce to its shelves. The sauce scores 800,000 on the Scoville spicy heat scale in comparison with 2,500 to 5,000 for Tabasco.
