Sugro MD Neil Turton will delay his planned departure in order to steer the buying group through the coronavirus crisis.
Convenience industry veteran Turton was due to leave the Cheshire-based business on 1 May following a three-month notice period.
In a letter to the group’s suppliers, Turton explained that “In these unprecedented circumstances” he would remain in post for the foreseeable future.
The recruitment process to find a successor has been put on hold, and all energies have been redirected into supporting his team, Turton explained.
In the letter Turton called on suppliers to be “as supportive as you can be” during this period.
The former Nisa CEO joined Sugro in September 2018.
“Sugro members and the wholesale industry are facing some unprecedented challenges right now,” said Neil. “We all want to pull together right now so the Board and I have agreed that I will stay on with Sugro during the crisis to support the team and ensure continuity. MD recruitment has been paused until these unprecedented circumstances start to normalise.”
