Nestlé has launched Boost Pre-meal, a liquid shot to support people using GLP-1 receptor agonists or other weight-loss medications to help them maintain their reduced weight.
Initially rolling out in the US, the protein shot was designed to “help reduce the loss of muscle tissue during rapid weight loss therapies”, said Nestlé.
Made using patented “whey protein microgel technology”, the shots contain 10g of protein, 45 calories and 1g of sugar. When consumed 10-30 minutes before a meal, they helped promote the body’s natural production of the hormone GLP-1 in response to a meal, Nestlé claimed.
This would in turn help manage hunger and the feeling of satiety after eating, the supplier added.

The shots are on sale in the US via Amazon, priced at $10.99 for a four-pack.
GLP-1 agonists are designed to help people lose weight by aping the action of GLP-1, which is released by the stomach after eating.
Users of the drugs are advised to eat small, regular meals with lots of fibre and protein as they adjust to healthier eating habits.
Nestlé earlier this year began selling frozen pizzas and protein-enriched pastas for consumers taking GLP-1 agonists.
US food manufacturer Conagra Brands has also added a ‘GLP-1 friendly’ claim to packs of its Healthy Choice frozen meals to lure weight-loss drug users.
The claim will be added to 26 existing Healthy Choice products with high protein content and a low calorie content from January.
