Nestlé has boosted its portfolio of powdered drinks with a swoop for Latin American manufacturer Malher Group.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, sees the Swiss giant take a majority stake in Mahler.

The target is based in Guatemala, employing 1,300 staff in the region, and controls drinks brands including Yus and Toki.

“Malher Group and its prestigious brands will consolidate Nestlé’s leadership in the culinary category in the central American region,” said Luis Cantarell, executive vice president of Nestlé’s Americas business.

“This association complement Nestlé’s research and development expertise with Malher’s best-in-class product distribution, allowing us to be closer to our consumers.”

Last week Nestlé moved into the UK clinical nutrition business with a deal for Liverpool-based supplier Vitaflo.
